2013 Regional Cropping Solution Network Projects

Albany RCSN Zone

  • Plant Available Water (PAW) Information and Tools for better crop management decisions for Albany and Esperance RCSN Zone consultants and farmers  – The project involves installing a number of soil moisture probes and linking these to new and current Yield Prophet sites, and holding info days for them.
  • Extension of amelioration methods to address non-wetting soils in the Albany and Kwinana West port zones of WA – Five farmers from Dalwallinu to Albany and 2 grower groups – Liebe and WMG, have been invloved in developing case studies on what farmers are doing – more to come!
  • Stubble management to reduce the impact of Frost to crops in the Albany and Kwinana West Zone of WA – Living Farm is managing the project, with sites located at Nyabing, Lake Grace, York, Corrigin and Wickepin.

Esperance RCSN Zone

  • Plant Available Water (PAW) Information and Tools for better crop management decisions for Albany and Esperance RCSN Zone consultants and farmers – The project involves installing a number of soil moisture probes and linking these to new and current Yield Prophet sites, and holding info days for them.

Kwinana East RCSN Zone

  • Break crop Economics for the Kwinana East (low rainfall) zone of WA – The project will use data from Planfarm and look at the top 25% of farmers in relation to their rotations.
  • Weed mapping and Ecology in the Central and Eastern Wheatbelt of WA – Managed by Pippa Michael, this project will look at the linkages between soil types and weed habits/species.
  • The economics of summer weed spraying and effects on soil water and soil N, for the Kwinana East RCSN Zone – Managed by PAA and Caroline Peek, this project  has so far shown some good linkages between soil moisture on different soil types after weed control.

Kwinana West RCSN Zone
