South Coast NRM was formed in 1998. It is an independent, community-based organisation providing leadership and expertise in natural resource management, conservation, sustainability, and community capacity.

Activities/Projects
- South Coast Enviro-Experiences (Lotterywest): A project to encourage, support and coordinate volunteering in the environmental sector on the south coast. This project aims to increase volunteers by coordinating a range of enviro-experiences that meet the needs of different generations providing much needed assistance to groups who have reported an increase in volunteer burn-out and a strong need for assistance to attract younger volunteers. There has been a significant capacity building element to this project.
- Sustainable Pathways to CN30 (UTAS, Module 1). This project forms part of Meat and Livestock Australians Carbon Storage Partnership. South Coast NRM play a critical role in Module 1 which underpins the Carbon Storage Partnership by providing a coordination, governance and steering role across all partnership investments, and by bringing all partnership outputs together to develop packages of integrated carbon storage practices and tools enabling the Red Meat Industry to adopt them.
- Carbon + Biodiversity Pilot (Australian Government). This project delivers services to improve the management of on-farm native vegetation and prioritise activities that will enhance biodiversity on farm and the landscape.
- Healthy Estuaries WA, Yakamia Creek (DWER): An urban rivers and catchments focused project to involve community, Aboriginal engagement, landholders and partners to promote rehabilitation, undertake on ground works and implement recommendations of the Local Action Plan.
- Understanding return on investment of sub-surface water management options for waterlogged areas in the Western Region (GRDC): This investment aims to assist growers in making informed decisions around construction of drainage to reduce the impacts of waterlogging on crop production and farm profitability.
- Increasing Demand for Wool – Pathways for Building On-farm Natural Capital (UTAS): An Australian Wool Innovation project with a focus on benchmarking effects of grazing on soil management, planting trees and holistic farm management; co-design regionally appropriate adaptations for improved natural capital, biodiversity, profitability, productively and reduction of net farm greenhouse gas emissions; support update of pathways for building on farm natural capital.
- Fitz-Stirling Fauna Recovery project (Australian Government): Landscape scale, whole of community, fully integrated threatened species project will protect & enhance populations of three priority species – chuditch, malleefowl, western ground parrot & Carnaby’s cockatoo.
- Progressive Noongar Corporations creating commercial seed-supply and nursery enterprises in the Great Southern: This project will transition two pilot-scale Noongar-led seed collection/nursery enterprises through the start-up phase into established commercial businesses.
- Restoring Noongar Boodja (Lotterywest): Restoring Noongar Boodja are three integrated and time critical projects being managed by South Coast NRM in partnership with The The University of Western Australia & UWA Albany Campus, Wirlomin Noongar Language & Stories and Albany Heritage Reference Group Aboriginal Corporation (AHRGAC). Restoring Noongar Boodja is aimed at respecting, recording, applying and sharing Noongar knowledge to manage our natural resources.
- Emergency Preparedness (Australian Government): Emergency response planning and community consultation to aid in the protection of the regions biodiversity and productive agricultural land.
- Saving our Native Species - Western Ringtail Possum (Australian Government): an urban gardens and citizen science project to increase awareness and habitat values of gardens as habitat for Western Ringtail Possum.
- Right Whale Tracker (State NRM Program, auspicing for South Coast Cetaceans and leading delivery): A project that improves the capability of communities, including citizen scientists and Indigenous Australians, to measure and monitor the population demographics and recovery of southern right whales in Australia.

Sponsors
South Coast NRM does not have sponsors. Our funding model currently is predominatly through service provision to the Australian Government, as well as government grant programs and commercial tenders.
