MDFI evolved from the Mullewa Landcare Group in 2010 as the Committee identified a need for a more broad acre and trials orientated information base, whilst being the conduit for the community when the seasons are more challenging. The group serves as a hub to disseminate information to growers in the area on a variety of trials & workshops available. An annual field walk is the primary activity, with other events coordinated as required.

Group Vision/Mission as per the MDFI objectives:

- To promote the needs of the agricultural community and host programs to meet those needs
- To encourage an awareness of agriculture and to promote improvements in the quality of life of persons living in an agricultural
community
- To facilitate, co-ordinate and communicate with agricultural businesses, researchers and industry, for the long term future and
sustainability of local and regional farming businesses
- To improve agronomic, financial and personal development of local and regional farming businesses
- To identify direct or indirect funding sources that can be made available for the development of the objectives and purposes of the
group
- To undertake any activity that the Committee shall determine to be in advancement of the group
