Gate 2 Plate exists as a benchmarking method for the beef cattle industry. They focus on education and capacity building events in their sector arousn supply chain education. They have 3 main events a year a Cattle Yard open day educating around cattle grading, Capacity Building speaker event amd a March Field Day edcuation event as well as their Gate 2 plate challenges, particularly with the youth sector through the Ag School network.

Gate 2 Plate Challenge inaugural event was held in 2015. At this stage the challenge was administered by the Albany Agricultural Society Inc, until June 2020 with Gate 2 Plate Challenge becoming it own Incorporated Association. The Challenge holds four events: Inspection of challenge at Mount Barker Regional Saleyards -­‐ January Producer/ sponsor Field day-­‐ early/mid-March Schools Challenge-­‐ day after producer/sponsor field day Gala awards presentation-­‐ late May
