Bee Industry Council WA (BICWA)
Description
Established in 2015, the Bee Industry Council of Western Australia Ltd (BICWA) represents all facets of the beekeeping sector from hobbyists through to large commercial beekeeping enterprises. As a peak industry body, BICWA's current membership is made up of three large industry organisations which in turn each have their own member stakeholders.
Our industry today comprises of over 4500 beekeepers with 55400 hives, including 180 commercial beekeepers who manage more than 50 hives each. Our commercial hives total 34,800. Honey, wax and pollen production totals between $30 million to $50 million each year. In 2019 WA honey exports topped $8.1 million.
We are a young industry that seeks to build up its visibility in the agriculture sector and to access and provide opportunities that will connect and support stakeholders. Our main focus areas are resource access & management, biodiversity and disease prevention & management.
Vision: BICWA is the highly respected peak body leading a vibrant, dynamic, diverse and profitable bee industry in WA.
Purpose: Our mandate is to provide support to the WA bee industry, producers and aligned organisations in the development of their industry via leadership, advocacy and active participation in education, policy and planning.
