The UWA School of Agriculture and Environment and The UWA Institute of Agriculture are thrilled to invite all to register to attend this very special celebration. ‘Grounded in Soil Science: Celebrating UWA Emerita Professor Lynette Abbott’s Golden Jubilee of Research & Service’ will be held on Monday 18 November 2024 from 1.30pm to 5pm. The symposium will be held at the UWA Wilsmore Lecture Theatre, along with a fully-catered afternoon tea in the Prescott Court garden.
All members of the public are welcome to attend this symposium. It will feature guest talks dedicated to scientific discussion that reference and honour Emerita Professor Abbott’s research career. Full event program and speaker details to come.

About Emerita Professor Abbott
|
|
|
Emerita Professor Abbott is a globally recognised leader in soil science and soil biology, who is celebrating a milestone 50 years of service at UWA this year. Her pioneering research has advanced the understanding of plant-soil interactions in agriculture and disturbed ecosystems. A passionate science communicator, a dedicated advocate for women in science, she has mentored over 30 PhD students, published 170+ papers, (H-index of 57 – Scopus). She has received prestigious Honours, including fellowships from the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science and Soil Science Australia and the inaugural General Jeffery Soil Health Award.
Professor Abbott is deeply connected with the agricultural community across Western Australia. She takes tremendous joy in translating scientific theory into practice, conducts regular workshops with farmers and advisors across Australia, actively supports global food security through research and training and coordinates the WA State Committee of the Crawford Fund.
