SCIENCE & INNOVATION TO TRANSFORM GLOBAL
FOOD SYSTEMS, IN A CLIMATE CRISIS
Dr Ismahane Elouafi will discuss the urgent need to transform global agriculture and food systems to adapt and mitigate climate
change. She will provide an overview of CGIAR, a global research partnership for a food-secure future dedicated to transforming food,
land, and water systems in a climate crisis that works collaboratively at global, regional, and local scales.
As we face global problems, from climate change to biodiversity loss to food insecurity, water scarcity, pollution, and soil and ocean
degradation, we need more than ever the full mobilisation of science and the best of our scientific capabilities to find solutions. With
science, we can empower small-scale farmers in Africa and the global South with access to innovations.
We can and should transform the food and agriculture sector from a contributor to GHG emissions to a key instrument of removal of
C02 and methane. By adopting climate-smart precision agriculture, digitalisation, and new genetics, we can help increase C02
absorption in plants, reforestation, and soils.
Dr Elouafi will showcase successful initiatives, moving us towards more sustainable and resilient food, land, and water systems.
