Scott River Growers Group

Description

The Scott River Growers Group Margaret River Region Inc (Scott Rivers Grower Group) was established in 1999 to try and secure the Beenup mine site for value adding of agricultural product. The group vision is to increase the capacity of the Grower Group to eventually be a South West Growers Group, which is currently lacking. A consequence of this is that farmers are missing out on R&D, project establishment, capacity building, marketing supply chains etc. The group see’s that the area they cover needs to increase production and profitability through local research, development and extension activities  for a range of farming enterprises.

Current Activities

  • Liaison with the Lower Blackwood Landcare District Committee to start co-operative models for delivery of sustainable agriculture activities
  • Lobby for infrastructure requirements

Past Activities and Accomplishments

  • Worked closely with the Department of Water to get a better licensing system in place for irrigators
  • Investigated a private model for local water management
