Merredin and District Farm Improvement Group (MADFIG)

Description

MADFIG was formed in 2013 and became incorporated in 2015 after a need was identified for relevant RD&E in the Merredin area of Western Australia. Membership is open to landowners in the shire of Merredin and surrounding districts, as well as corporate membership for businesses associated with agriculture.

In 2015, MADFIG hosted 9 trials and hosted or supported 5 events. In 2016 MADFIG will run 5 trials, and recently hosted the GRDC Research Updates in Merredin as will run at least another 3 events. Longer term they are involved in 2 two and three year Royalties for Regions projects.

Current Activities

  • Digital soil mapping – using clustered information to identify problem areas in paddocks and target solutions
  • Wheat and Barley NVT trial
  • Cereal agronomy ‘yardstick’ trial – reducing variety selection risk through understanding varietal performance with different management packages
  • Crop grazing in low rainfall eastern wheatbelt
